Further information about the project "Promise Fulfilled" (2023)

Since I was a child, my grandfather was one of the people who shaped me most deeply. He taught me the value of humour and showed me that life should be more than mere functioning. In difficult moments, he was a calm and steady presence — and, in many ways, a friend.

When I was young, I asked him to make me a promise: that he would live to be a hundred. He did. In July 2023, at the age of 103, I photographed him in his home. The familiar setting, together with the same textured backdrop, whose surface may suggest scars, became part of the work’s visual language.

Rather than attempting to summarise a life, the series stays close to ageing, vulnerability, dignity and farewell. He died in September 2023, two months after the photograph was made.
