Lennard Grohn is a German photographic artist based in Frankfurt am Main. He studied photography at the University of Fine Arts in Mainz and received his Diploma in Fine Art in 2009.
Working primarily in black and white, he develops long-term series that explore memory, intimacy and quiet transformation through a restrained visual language. His work moves between presence and absence, silence and emotional intensity, ranging from intimate portraits to poetic landscapes.
Personal experience often forms the starting point for projects that consider loss, absence, memory, impermanence and what remains. The early loss of his father has had a lasting influence on these themes, while his work reaches beyond autobiography.
Alongside photography, Grohn has played drums since childhood and worked for many years as a professional drummer and percussionist, including a long-term collaboration in an ensemble with a master drummer from Senegal. His background in music informs his sense of rhythm, sequence and restraint.
During the pandemic, photography returned to the centre of his artistic practice; since 2023, he has pursued it as a sustained practice.
